Peer Support
This service is identified in the following stages: Recovery is a process of change through which a beneficiary improves their health and wellness, lives a self-directed life, and strives to reach their full potential; to live, work, learn, and participate fully in their communities. Self-Determination is the right of an individual to direct his or her own services, to make decisions concerning their health and well-being, and to have help to make decisions from whomever they choose. Self-Advocacy is identifying and purposefully asking for what one needs. Health is learning to overcome, manage or more successfully live with the symptoms and making healthy choices that support one’s physical and emotional well-being. Lastly, community is relationships and social networks that provide support, friendship, love, and hope.
Diagnostic Assessment
A diagnostic assessment is an intensive clinical and functional evaluation of an individual’s mental health, intellectual and developmental disability, or substance use condition. A diagnostic assessment determines whether the individual meets medical necessity and can benefit from: mental health, intellectual disability, developmental disability, or substance use disorder services based on the individual’s diagnosis, presenting problems, and treatment and recovery goals.
Out-Patient Therapy
These services are intended to determine a beneficiary’s treatment needs, and to provide the necessary treatment. Services focus on reducing psychiatric and behavioral symptoms in order to improve the beneficiary’s functioning in familial, social, educational, or occupational life domains.
Residential Support
Residential Supports provides individualized services and supports to enable an individual 16 years and older to live successfully in a Group Home or Alternative Family Living (AFL) setting of their choice and be an active participant in the individual’s community. Residential Supports should comply with home and community-based service (HCBS) standards.

Community Living and Supports
Is a periodic service is provided in a member’s home and the community to assist with the development of Activities of Daily Living, building personal preferences and experiences, and increasing social integration. Community Living and Supports encourages staff support that is person-centered and based on the member’s preferred schedule.
Community Networking
Is a weekly service that is driven by volunteer activities and membership in community activities and organizations that are fully integrated with all populations of people. Community Networking is a service provided in the community where members can choose volunteer activities that assist with pre-vocational skills and vocational goals. Members can contribute their gifts and skills in volunteer settings around North Carolina. Members can also take integrated classes of their choosing to help build preferences and find meaningful ways to socialize with community peers.
Supported Employment
Is a weekly service that is driven by employment skills and retention, this service also focuses on pre-employment skills and training, such as filling out job applications, mock interviewing, preparing for job interviews and workplace interactions, understanding accommodations/requesting accommodations, etc. Supported Employment provides 1:1 staffing support in employment settings and takes the place of Vocational Rehabilitation for those members who need 1:1 staffing while in a job environment. Staff members are meant to promote independence and job site training.
Respite
Is a service provided periodically (as needed) that gives a reprieve for caregivers and natural supports needing a break from the responsibilities of daily care-taking. Respite is offered for both periodic and residential support services.
1915 (I) Waiver Services
1915(i) Community Living and Support
focuses on skill practice/acquisition and provides supervision/assistance for activities. This service is available for members with an I/DD or TBI.
1915(i) Community Transition
provides funds for adult members moving from an institutional setting into their own private residence. This service is available for members with an I/DD, serious mental illness (SMI), severe substance uses disorder (SUD), or TBI.
1915(i) Individual and Transitional Support
The services support in acquiring, retaining and improving self-help, social and adapting skills to reside successfully in the community. This service is available for some members with a serious emotional disturbance (SED), SMI or severe SUD.
1915(i) Respite
provides periodic or scheduled support and relief to the primary caregiver(s) from the responsibility and stress of caring for beneficiaries. This service is available for some members with I/DD, SED, severe SUD, and TBI.
1915(i) Supported Employment
provides initial job development, training.
